Grab a video in three moves
- Paste. Copy the YouTube link and drop it into the box at the top.
- Pick. The menu starts on MP4 (720p). Keep it, or open it to choose another video quality or MP3.
- Grab. Hit Download, watch the bar fill, then tap Download on the "Download ready" card.
In our tests with clips under two minutes, the file was ready in about 18 to 26 seconds. Longer videos need more time, so keep the page open until the card appears.
Why 720p is the starting point
720p is sharp on a phone and still small enough to download over mobile data. Most people never need to touch the menu. When you do, here is a quick guide:
- Watching on a laptop or TV: choose MP4 (1080p).
- Large monitor and a high-quality upload: try MP4 (1440p) or MP4 (4K).
- Slow connection or little storage: MP4 (360p) or MP4 (480p).
- Just the sound: MP3, or M4A for an even smaller file.
Speed tips
The wait depends mostly on the length of the video and the quality you pick. A two-minute clip at 720p is ready far sooner than an hour-long talk at 1080p. If you only need to hear something, choose MP3: in our tests it was a few seconds quicker than 720p video, since no picture has to be prepared. On a weak mobile signal, a lower quality also makes the finished file arrive faster.
Made for the phone in your hand
Ytgrabber runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install. On Android, copy the link in the YouTube app with Share and Copy link, then paste it here in Chrome. On an iPhone, do the same and paste it in Safari; the finished file lands in the Downloads folder of the Files app. From there you can move a video to Photos with the share sheet.
The paste box, the format menu and the Download button sit together at the top of the page, so you can do the whole job in one place.
Pick the shortcut that fits
Each format has its own page with the matching setting already chosen:
- YouTube to MP4 for video files from 144p to 4K.
- YouTube to MP3 when you only want the audio.
- YouTube Shorts downloader for vertical clips.
Every format in the menu
Besides MP3, the Audio group lists M4A, WEBM, AAC, FLAC, OPUS, OGG and WAV. You rarely need them, but they help when a program asks for one specific file type, for example WAV for a video editor or FLAC for a lossless music collection.
What makes a grab fail
Most failed attempts come from the link, not the tool. A link copied from a playlist page can point to the list instead of the video; open the video itself and copy again. Links from search results sometimes carry tracking parts, which is fine, but a cut-off link is not. Paste the full address and try once more.
Quick answers
Do I have to sign up?
No. Ytgrabber works without sign-up and without an app.
Why is the 4K file so large?
4K holds four times the pixels of 1080p. Pick it only for big screens and uploads that really are in 4K. In our test the 4K file used the newer AV1 codec, which older devices may not play.
A video will not load. What now?
Check that the video is public and plays without a login. Private, removed and region-locked videos cannot be fetched.
Does it take Shorts links?
Yes. Paste the Shorts link as it is, or use the Shorts page linked above.
Ytgrabber is an independent tool, not a YouTube or Google product. Grab only videos you are allowed to keep.
